Puffins Returns - Island Expedition Frühjahr 2024

Im März 2024, mit der ersten Fähre des Jahres, begaben wir uns auf den Weg nach Island. Mit an Bord der Fähre die zwei LQ4-Expeditionsmodelle - der BANDO & der RUNNER. Der BANDO ist der Urvater aller folgenden Modellreihen und der RUNNER als jüngstes Familienmitglied hatte quasi gerade das Licht der Welt erblickt. Und schon war auf großer Entdeckungstour nach Island. Ein raue Insel mit beeindruckender Naturkulisse, auf der auch schon mal Offroad-Qualitäten gefragt waren. Beide LQ4-Trucks haben alle Herausforderungen bestens bewältigt. Die Wohnkabinen boten tollen Komfort, hatten alles an Bord was wir brauchten und hielten auch ohne Heizung den Innenraum nachts warm. Der RUNNER hatte eine neuartige Kanine aus dem LQ4-Modulkonzept verbaut. Ein vorgefertigtes Kabinenmodul wurde mit einem Fahrgestell zu einem Expeditionsmobil vereint. Es waren allerdings eine Menge an Anpassungen notwendig. Der von LQ4 konzipierte Zwischenrahmen ermöglich den Aufbau des Kabinenmoduls auf alle handelsüblichen Fahrgestelle. Soweit die Theorie. Und Island war der Praxistest. Alles bestanden. Neben vielen praktischen Erfahrungen mit den Offroad-Trucks und deren Erprobung auch abseits der normalen Pfade und unter harten klimatischen Bedingungen, gab es jede Menge Natur, Wind und beeindruckende Bilder. Während der 16 Tage Island-Expedition lief nicht immer alles nach Plan - eine stürmische Überfahrt über den Atlantik, Vulkanaktivitäten, gesperrte Pässe, vereiste Straßen, zugefrorene Flussfurten, Schneestürme und eine abgestürzte Drohne, die gar nicht erst Island erreichte. Aber am Ende war dann doch alles gut. Und somit gibt es auch jede Menge zu erzählen. Die Rückkehr der Papageientaucher haben wir allerdings verpasst. Dafür war es leider noch zu früh. Be the adventure. ≠≠≠≠≠ In March 2024, on the first ferry of the year, we set off for Iceland. On board the ferry were the two LQ4 expedition models BANDO & RUNNER. The BANDO is the forefather of all subsequent model series and the RUNNER, the youngest member of the family, had virtually just seen the light of day. And we were already on a great discovery tour to Iceland. A rugged island with impressive natural scenery, where off-road qualities were also required. Both LQ4 trucks mastered all the challenges perfectly. The living cabins offered great comfort, had everything we needed on board and kept the interior warm at night even without heating. The RUNNER had a new type of cabin from the LQ4 modular concept. A prefabricated cabin module was combined with a chassis to create an expedition vehicle. However, a lot of adjustments were necessary. The intermediate frame designed by LQ4 enables the cabin module to be mounted on all commercially available chassis. So much for the theory. And Iceland was the practical test. Everything passed. In addition to lots of practical experience with the off-road trucks and testing them off the beaten track and in harsh climatic conditions, there was also plenty of nature, wind and impressive images. Not everything went according to plan during the 16-day Iceland expedition - a stormy crossing of the Atlantic, volcanic activity, closed passes, icy roads, frozen river fords, snowstorms and a crashed drone that didn't even reach Iceland. But all was well in the end. And so there is a lot to tell. However, we missed the return of the puffins. Unfortunately, it was still too early for that. Be the adventure.
