Three types of transpiration are found in plants and foliar transpiration accounts for about 99% loss of water. External and internal factors affect the rate of transpiration. The external factors include atmospheric humidity, temperature, light, wind velocity and atmospheric pressure. The internal factors include number of stomata, percentage of open stomata, water status of the plant and canopy structure. Antitranspirant are the substances applied to reduce the rate of transpiration and used in dry farming. Transpiration ratio is the ratio of moles of water transpired to moles of carbon dioxide assimilated by photosynthesis. The transpiration ratio is the lowest for CAM plants and highest for C3 plants. Cobalt chloride test is a chemical method used to check the rate of transpiration from surface of leaf. Manometer is used to measure root pressure. Porometer is used to measure the diameter of stomatal pore. Potometer is used to indirectly determine rate of transpiration and it measures the rate of absorption of water by roots of plant. #transpiration #TransportInPlants #neet2021 #PlantPhysiology #NcertChapter11
