🎵 BROKEN KIDS 🎵 Two kids, same pain, different parents — only one makes it out. 🎸 GENRE 🎸 Pop Country ⚠️ CONTENT NOTICE: ⚠️ This song addresses school violence, over-medication, and child mental health. It is not political — it is a mirror. 🧒 ABOUT THIS SONG 🧒 "Broken Kids" is the hardest song on the Then & Now album and the one that needed to be written. In 2001 a kid came home with a black eye and his dad sat with him and taught him how to handle it. No lawyers, no pills, no shortcuts — just parents who showed up. That kid turned out fine. In 2026 the same kid comes home with the same black eye and everything is different. Parents call lawyers instead of having hard conversations. Doctors prescribe Adderall instead of discipline. Nobody's home at dinner. The warning signs pile up on a dark social media page and nobody sees them until it's too late. The bridge says what most people are afraid to say out loud. Same pain, different outcome, and we made the choice that led there. This song doesn't point fingers at one side — it points at all of us. 📝 LYRICS 📝 Kid in 2001 came home with a black eye Dad said son sometimes you have to fight Mom made him talk with her every single night Didn't fix his problems but taught him wrong from right Bullied every day he came home feeling small Dad showed him strength by being there through it all 🎵 Struggled in class he couldn't seem to sit still No pills to calm him no prescription to fill Parents made him work no shortcuts no giving in Sat with him for hours and taught him discipline Consequences when he failed and lessons learned for life No pill to numb him prepared him for strife 🎵 We're raising broken kids in a broken home Medicated isolated staring at a phone Nobody's teaching them to fight nobody's teaching them to cope We hand them pills for pain instead of giving hope That's how we make broken kids Yes broken kids were made 🎵 Kid in 2026 came home with a black eye Parents called a lawyer to make the other parents cry Never made him face it switched schools instead Online and alone he ate dinner in his bed Warning signs were every way nobody seemed to care Mama's on her phone and dad was never there 🎵 Struggled in class doctor wrote it down Adderall and Ritalin to calm him down Stopped talking dark posts on his page Wrote about emptiness loneliness and rage Nobody was listenin' nobody could see Cries for help ignored left alone to bleed 🎵 We're raising broken kids in a broken home Medicated isolated staring at a phone Nobody's teaching them to fight nobody's teaching them to cope We hand them pills for pain instead of giving hope That's how we make broken kids Yes broken kids were made 🎵 First kid turned out fine raising his son right Second kid's the shooter that you saw it on the news last night Same pain different parents and broken mind we failed to reach We medicated symptoms mental health we didn't teach Now they're walking into schools nothing left to lose It ain't the guns that kill it's broken kids we choose to abuse 🎵 We're raising broken kids in a broken home Medicated isolated staring at a phone Nobody's teaching them to fight nobody's teaching them to cope We hand them pills for pain instead of giving hope That's how we make broken kids Yes broken kids were made 🎵 It ain't the guns It's what we've done To our sons 🔔 Subscribe for the full Then & Now album — 12 tracks exploring everything we gained, lost, and can never get back. 💬 What do you think we got wrong?
