The contribution of the National Meteorological Service to the economy and society of Belize

This presentation will begin with an introduction to Belize’s National Meteorological Service with added context regarding the severe weather and climate change risks that it faces, illustrating that climate change is not a future concern for Belize but in fact impacting the society and economy today. The presentation will then move on to how the met service contributes to mitigating those impacts through a series of services provided in an assemblage of stakeholder engagements. Providing a guide for how a national met service can start illustrating their benefits and form stronger cases for sustainable funding. The final aspect of this presentation will give insight into future plans for the development of the economic modelling used in Belize.
