There is little agreement in Washington DC about United States border policy. Debate about a physical barrier will persist, but technology at the border offers hope for compromise. Democrats and Republicans alike mention the need for improved technology along our borders and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) offers superior detection capabilities. “Smart Border Security” describes how DAS can detect and locate digging, climbing and fence cutting activities at the earliest possible stage, minimizing false alarms and equipping response teams with the information needed to mount a rapid and effective response. Presented by Dave Cunningham of Network Integrity Systems. Dave Cunningham has worked in the optical fiber industry for more than 25 years, and he leverages that experience as the Vice President of Marketing for Network Integrity Systems. In this role, Dave is responsible for all Marketing and Product Line activities. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Fiber Optic Sensing Association. Prior to joining Network Integrity Systems, Dave was the Director of Global Marketing at Tellabs, where he had global responsibility for Tellabs’ marketing and communications strategy and was part of the executive leadership team. In 2013, Dave sparked the creation of the Association for Passive Optical LAN by bringing together IT industry leaders such as Corning, 3M, CommScope, IBM, Tellabs, and DasanZhone to create a trade association focused on educating and advocating Passive Optical LAN technologies. He served as the founding Chairman of the Board and President. Prior to his role with Tellabs, Dave worked in Corning Optical Communications' commercial & IT organizations for over 20 years. In various roles, he was responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining Corning’s global IT network infrastructure before moving into Corning’s Business Development group and launching Corning’s Passive Optical LAN program.
