(9 May 1997) Natural Sound Clashes erupted between Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers in the West Bank town of Hebron on Friday morning. A number of Palestinians tried to stone the houses in the Jewish enclave of Beit Hadassah and then threw stones and petrol bombs at the Israeli soldiers that tried to stop them. The soldiers answered with rubber bullets and tear gas. Soldiers came under a barrage of rocks and empty bottles in the latest clashes to erupt in Hebron. Palestinian youths also hurled petrol bombs at Israeli soldiers, scattering flames along this street. The soldiers responded with rubber bullets and tear gas before chasing the Palestinian youths down the street. Israel Radio said four Palestinian protestors were injured by rubber bullets and one was hospitalized with a leg injury. It also stated that one Israeli soldier was slightly injured by a stone. This latest unrest comes as Israel and the Palestinians are trying to return to the negotiating table with the help of the American mediator Dennis Ross. After a night meeting with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ross is scheduled to see the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, on Friday in the West Bank town of Ramallah.
