Unusual Mod: ATLAS Omega II (mod. Advance) Traction Elevator - 168 Ed. Abram St. - GO, BR

An ATLAS Omega II traction elevator, that was not too long ago partially modernized by Advance, a local company, at an early 90s mid-to-high-end residential tower. The building is quite big in size, and it's a single apartment per floor. There are two identical elevators here, very near each other, almost facing each other. This one for passengers only, the other for service and passengers, typical setting for apartment towers over here. Service car:    • ATLAS Omega II (mod. Advance) Traction Ser...   Both were partially modernized by Advance very recently, from what I can tell, sometime between 2018 to 2022. Things that were changed were the fixtures, cab ceiling, controller, some shaft equipment, the door on level T (ground/Lobby) replaced for a fully automatic one, as well as the internal door and it's operator, with an added IR sensor bar on it. Same thing as other mods I've seem from this company. The cab is still original, it's one of the Modern Line premium cabs for the Omega II. Size is small but as traffic here is actually very low, it's okay. The interior is simple, but looks very elegant, all in dark colors and stainless steel finish, with the mirror covering the entire back wall. Only the ceiling panel was replaced in the mod, originally it was the recessed bar in the middle across the cab with the trays for the lights in it's sides. The whole cab still looks great and is really well preserved for it's age. Original fixtures were the typical Classe A II BLED buttons. Hard to know which variation of it and which features they had though. Got replaced with this generic one that is a really close copy of Otis' Solution, (mainly the buttons and call stations) it's what Advance uses in most of their mods. Very basic, just made to fit over the space of the old one and work with the new controller, and adds an intercom and key switches. Still looking brand new, it works and feels pretty okay and solid in general. Not sure how it'll hold up in the long run, but as usage isn't very high, might endure it well. They did leave the serial number badge above the COP all intact, rare for ones that get modded. The floor above T should be SF like in the original, but they wrongly re-labeled it as SL, and even then, the indicator shows 5L instead of SL... SLoppy! Strangely, the elevators here don't feature the optional Atlas Code floor lockout system, even though this is a tower with of single apartments per floor, the main intended use for that system. Floor 14 features a seemingly adapted bolt lock on the edge of it's landing door, to physically lock it. The new landing door on T look so identical to Otis' "Prima" one, that when I saw it from afar the first time, thought it was all completely replaced by a Gen2. Only knew what the deal was when seeing the interior of the car. Performance is good, ride is very smooth and comfortable. Operation is efficient, no glitches or malfunctions, overall it's great. Only downside is the leveling on some floors, like SS, taking ages, likely due to programming. However in others like the top floor, it's the complete opposite, leveling almost instantly, can barely feel it slowing down and opens the door right up - just amazing how good that is! There's the strange knocking noises coming from the car top above the wall, when leveling on SS and T, not a clue to what that is. The new doors and the operator are great, also really smooth and quiet when moving. Motor still sounds epic, it's pretty unusual and interesting to ride and listen how an old, 2-speed machine, does being ran by a modern VF inverter system. It's the same thing, just now with seamless speed changes instead of only travel and leveling. And tell it that, it's AMAZINGLY smooth. Unbelievable that it's running this perfectly on a simple, 30-year old machine. Proves how good those old ones can be, too. Both old and new equipment work just fine with each other. Pretty cool. Maintenance done by Advance, the ones who modded it. Specifications: Manufacturer: ATLAS Villares (mod. Advance) Maintainer: Advance (local company) Model: Omega II Fixtures: Classe A II BLED (repl. ?? generic) Type: Passenger Residential Hoisting: Traction Doors: 2-speed sliding, manual swing landings Capacity: 560 kg/8 persons (apx. lbs.) In Service: 1990, mod. ~ 2018 - 2022 Floors Served: 17 (SS - T* - SF - 1/14) Controller: Atlas Omega II electronic, repl. Addtech, digital w/ VF-drive Motor System: Villared CE-365 geared 2-speed AC machine (now adapted on VF control) Rating: 9/10 - Despite being modded, it's a very interesting one, as it is really partial - still uses old and new equipment and parts together, not very common on mods around here. It's in great condition, and running well. Rides very nicely and is pretty smooth, the only issue is the long leveling time in some floors, and the weird noises on the car top. Overall, the mod still makes it very interesting, in it's own way. Filmed: April 11, 2023 Camera: Samsung Galaxy A52 © 2023 L. Naves
