Brownells BRN-601 Retro USAF AR15 Colt Clone (Nitpicker's Review, 2019)

Last year we trotted out the Colt AR15 SP1 to compare it with the Colt M16A1 Reissue. This time we use the SP1 to gauge just how close to an original Brownells has gotten with its BRN-601; which was recently updated for 2019 too. So did the BRN601 stackup? or did it fall short when trying to stand beside the original AR15? The BRN-601 is Brownells attempt at cloning an early Colt Model 601 (Mod.01) rifle. This was the version first tested by the US Air Force and tried out in the field during Project Agile, way back around 1961-1962. BRN-601 features include: early style slab side receivers made by Nodak Spud, retro style furniture colored green, 'duckbill' flash hider, early style small triangular cocking handle, and chrome plated BCG. Also new for this year, the metal now has an 'XM' gray type finish. The Colt AR15 SP1 seen in this video is from 1965, so it has many early features, making it a good measuring stick for Brownells reproduction. Interested in becoming a Patreon contributor?
