Classical Mechanics - Classical Scattering Theory : Two Dimensional Elastic Collision In Lab Frame

The two dimensional elastic collision or scattering is a key problem of classical mechanics. It finds its applications at various places in physics,both on the macroscopic and microscopic levels. The well known Compton scattering, Rutherford scattering etc are the common examples of such collisions. The problem of collisions can’t be solved by writing equations of motion because a very complicated strongly time dependent impulsive force acts on the colliding system. These problems are solved by using different conservation principles viz Conservation of linear momentum, energy conservation etc. In case of an elastic collision, kinetic energy of the colliding system before and after collision remain same.
