According to the songwriter Martin Gore, and sung by David Gahan, the track is about being a Jesus for somebody else, someone who gives you hope and care. It was inspired by a 1985 book Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley. He was her man and mentor. As a track it’s had a variety of remixes and this is the band performing it live in Germany in 1993 on their Devotion tour. Depeche Mode were formed in the south east of England in 1980 with an original line up of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Flectcher and Vince Clarke. Clarke left the band and went on to an incredibly successful career with Yazoo and Erasure; after that Alan Wilder joined them. They became one of the great electronic bands of the 80s and 90s.
