Vlogging Day: 0479 (10/08/23) Built in the 1940’s during World War II, fifteen lookout towers were built along the Delaware and New Jersey coastline to protect the Delaware Bay against German ships. Thankfully the guns at Fort Miles were never needed to be used, but the men who served at the fort and in the towers were a pivotal part of keeping our country safe. For 60 years the iconic towers have dotted the Delaware beaches inspiring curiosity in children and adults alike, including myself who was always amazed to see these giants out of my parent’s car windows. After 15 years of planning and money raising, Tower 3 opened to the public on April 29th 2023, allowing guests to climb all 100 steps of the 57-foot structure for an amazing view of the ocean and bay.
