Shunt Carefully - High Pressure Anhydrous Ammonia Delivery From South Africa to Sable Chemicals

#ZimbabweRailways #Zimbabwe #NRZ #ZimbabweElectrics Sable chemicals is located along the Gweru - Harare (Dabuka - Lochinvar) mainline just outside Kwekwe at Sherwood siding. This train originated from South Africa and it runs on a high priority order. High pressure Anhydrous Ammonia is used by Sable Chemicals in manufacturing of fertilizer. After the diesel hauled train I included a simulation clip of the actual locomotives that's supposed to be working this 313km mainline section (sadly, now defunct). When industry was still functional, we had Zimbabwe fertilizer in Harare that also received these ammonia trains. Sadly again, this one also closed down. Sable Chemicals faced some operational challenges which stopped anhydrous ammonia deliveries. The company has a small exchange yard with seven roads that handles inbound loads of ammonia and coal then outbound loads of fertilizer. When it fully functioned the yard was fully packed. They also used to get oxygen via a pipe from Zisco (now defunct) some 30kms away.
