After the meeting between Trump and Netanyahu yesterday in Washington D.C. there is still no clear understanding as to what will happen next. Trump said the only concrete decision yesterday was to “continue negotiations because Iran wants to make a deal.” Again, there is a tremendous amount of speculation as to what Trump is up to, but nothing concrete where anyone can say for certain what will eventually happen. As always, we will list what we know for certain, but we cannot make any conclusions as to what “will” happen, not what “may” happen. Headline ... Iran secretly executed thousands despite promise to US (Israel HaYom) Tehran promised to halt executions but secretly continued killing protesters while misleading Washington about willingness to negotiate on missiles and terror proxies, sources reveal. Iran has deceived the United States at least twice to prevent strikes and reach talks in Oman, according to two diplomatic sources, one of them from the region. During the first weeks of January, as the US prepared for a strike and began advancing its forces toward the Gulf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and President Masoud Pezeshkian conveyed messages to the Americans, including a promise that they would respond to initial American demands to avoid a strike. The Americans first demanded a halt to the massacre of protesters and the prevention of the expected executions there. Araghchi and Pezeshkian pledged that there would be no executions, and President Trump presented this as an achievement on January 14 that led to postponing the decision to launch a strike. "We were told that the killing in Iran has stopped and there is no plan for executions, or for an execution, or for executions – that's what I was told based on reliable authority." However, according to intelligence information that reached several intelligence agencies in the West, including the Mossad and the British and German agencies, the executions continued, but efforts were made to conceal them. Instead of hanging protesters who were caught in city squares, they were shot or strangled in custody, and their families were told they died in the protests, even though there is evidence they were arrested alive. According to estimates, this method resulted in thousands of executions, separate from the tens of thousands killed during the dispersal of protests. In addition, the West continuously receives reports about the ongoing suppression of protests and demonstrations breaking out in rural cities, and about mass arrests. ...Most countries in the region have announced they will not allow the Americans to attack Iran from their territory, but if convinced, they might participate in defensive operations. Thus, as Israel Hayom reported, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and Jordan participated in intercepting missiles and drones launched from Iran toward Israel in the war in June. While this story was written before the meeting between Trump and Netanyahu, nothing has really changed publicly. There are reports that the U.S. is moving a second carrier to the region as well as becoming all the more prepared for an eventual strike on Iran. The belief is that nothing of substance was shared publicly about yesterday’s meeting, that Trump said negotiations must continue and a deal can be made, was a misdirection ... Instead, all the parties agreed to a pre-emptive strike on Iran. This is certainly a possibility but again, there is no guarantee that this will happen. As of this writing, there is not even a date, time, or place set for the next meeting between the U.S. and Iran. What we do know is that Iran has lock downed the entire country...hunting not only those who have protested recently, but also those who have protested in the past, the so-called moderates. In addition, to this they are raiding churches, killing many Christians as well as taking away others to who knows where. So, we have a number of possibilities. An eventual strike on Iran, possibly soon, the extent of which is not known. An eventual deal between the U.S. and Iran, which would allow Iran to continue its “divinely ordained program” of destroying the little Satan, “Israel” and the big Satan, “the United States.” Add to this, their ballistic missile program would continue to the place where so much more damage could be inflicted upon Israel if another attack takes place. All in all, we are still in a period of waiting to see what exactly will happen next. Again, what will happen, and when it will happen, is not known. We should hope and pray for the best, but the short-term outcome is anything but certain. As always, we will keep you posted.
