Vajrakilaya, also known as #dorje #Phurba, is a prominent wrathful deity in Tibetan Buddhism recognized as the embodiment of the enlightened activity of all Buddhas. He is primarily invoked as a meditational yidam to remove spiritual obstacles, destroy forces hostile to compassion, and transmute the "three poisons" of ignorance, attachment, and aversion. Iconographically, he is depicted with three faces, six arms, and wings, often brandishing a phurba or ritual peg used to pin down and transform negative energies. The sources trace his historical roots to 8th-century India and Nepal, where Padmasambhava utilized these teachings to subdue demonic interference and establish the Dharma in Tibet. Today, his practice remains central to the Nyingma and Sakya traditions, maintained through both ancient root tantras and rediscovered treasure teachings (terma). Within the broader Buddhist landscape, he serves as a powerful symbol of fierce compassion and the unstoppable energy required for achieving spiritual liberation.
