The AIPW (Artificial Intelligence Pipe Welding) System is built to join the gap between two pipes by using artificial intelligence to determine paths, gap width, and irregularities during the entire process. First, a laser inspects the gap between two pieces of pipe that are going to be joined and collects data to be used as coordinates for the robot to adjust and oscillate accordingly as it is welding. Using a tack weld as a reference point, the robot begins the welding process and adds multiple layers from the root up until the filler cap.
