If most of these are checked — you’re practicing wise empathy. ❌ SECTION 2: WARNING SIGNS YOU ARE ENABLING (Unbounded Empathy) Your empathy may be slipping into unhealthy territory if: ☐ You avoid difficult conversations because “they’re going through a lot.” ☐ You take on someone else’s emotional burden as your own. ☐ You protect people from consequences instead of guiding them through consequences. ☐ You regularly give someone a “free pass” the team notices. ☐ Performance issues persist but you keep “understanding the reasons.” ☐ You feel guilty enforcing standards. ☐ People treat you as an emotional dumping ground. ☐ You feel drained, resentful, or manipulated. ☐ Other team members quietly express frustration that “nothing changes.” If four or more are checked — empathy has become enabling.
