The head of Police Crime Intelligence, Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo, has unmasked some faces linked to the criminal cartels operating across South Africa. Khumalo lists North West businessman, Brown Mogotsi, as a cheerleader of the cartels and former police detective, Michael Pule Tau, as a person whose task is to eliminate individuals who're seen by cartels as problematic. He's also mentioned the suspended SAPS head of Crime Detection, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, as a key cog in the criminal network. Khumalo told the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee that the subsidaries that form the drug trafficking cartel include kidnappings, business extortion and cross-border vehicle smuggling.
