This is his only composition for unaccompanied choir ('a cappella'), and was finished in 1908. It is set to the medieval poetry by Charles, Duke of Orléans (1394-1465). The three songs are entitled: I. Dieu! qu’il la fait bon regarder! (God, how good it is to look upon her) II. Quant j’ai ouy le tabourin (When I hear the tambourine) III. Yver, vous n’estes qu’un villain (Winter, you're nothing but a villain) The work was originally scored for 4-6 voices (or choir), but this recording is of an original arrangement by Julian Bryan for soprano/mezzo soprano with an expanded piano accompaniment and optional contralto or violin. It is performed here by Sophie Clarke, with Benedict Holland on violin and David Jones on piano.
