From ancient times, military units throughout the world have conducted ceremonies to celebrate special occasions such as the change of command. History reveals that in the Middle Ages it was not uncommon for the soldiers in the field to be unaware of whom their commanders were or what they looked like. The formal change of command afforded these soldiers the opportunity to witness the proceedings, and actually see their commanders. The Continental Army of the United States conducted the first official ceremonies in America. This was the basis from which the present ceremony is derived, and has evolved into a law enforcement tradition that is rich with symbolism and heritage. Today, the primary purpose of the change of command is to allow officers to witness the formal transfer of total responsibility, authority, and accountability from one Chief of Police to another. These ceremonies have added color and pageantry to the Gloucester Township Police Department while preserving tradition and stimulating esprit-de-corps. 00:00 - Intro 01:22 - Arrival Of Officers 03:28 - Colors/ National Anthem 06:55 - Invocation 09:32 - Honored Guests 11:15 - Explanation Of Ceremony 12:17 - Final Salute Of Chief Harkins 12:52 - Chief Harkins Speech 13:41 - Promotion Of Chief Minosse 21:42 - Change Of Command 23:33 - First Salute Of Chief Minisse 24:13 - Chief Minosse Speech 31:47 - Deputy Chief Stollsteimer 37:04 - Capt.
