Good morning everyone and welcome to the celebration of the Holy Mass on this third Saturday of Lent. Today is the Memorial of Saint Perpetua, a noblewoman, and Saint Felicity, a slave, who were killed for their faith on March 7, 203 in Carthage. Perpetua's diary and accounts by eyewitnesses provide a vivid picture of the martyrs' experiences. In the reading from the Holy Gospel today, Saint Luke wrote of when Jesus told the Pharisees and the scribes the parable of the man who had two sons, the youner of which asked for his share of the property, travelled to a distant country, and squandered it in dissolute living. But on his repentant return, the father held a celebration which angered the elder son for he had been faithful and obedient to his father. Then the father said to the elder son, 'Son, you are always twith me and all that is mine is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life; he was lost and has been found.' The Responsorial Psalm is from Psalm 103: "The Lord is kind and merciful."
