Driving around the Cascade Creek DOC Campsite off SH94, the Milford Sound Road, in the Fiordland National Park, in the Southland region, on the South Coast of New Zealand's South Island. This is a scenic campsite in northern Fiordland with amazing views of the Eglinton Valley. Cascade Creek DOC Campsite is close to the Eglinton and Cascade rivers to fly fish in. The Lake Gunn Nature Walk also starts here, or explore nearby short walks. Cascade Creek DOC Campsite is a large sheltered campsite suitable for larger vehicles. There are many different areas to park on and call your own, and a large turning bay is at the end of the gravel road. There are trees and a shelter, with a picnic table, fire pits and a toilet. This place is great for fishing, swimming, BBQ, and walking. The Lake Gunn Nature Walk starts from here. It is a flat, easy, 45 min return walk from the campsite to the edge of Lake Gunn. Fiordland is the home of Mitre Peak, the stunning fiords of Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound, the beautiful lakeside towns of Manapouri and Te Anau, and the Milford, Kepler, and Routeburn Tracks. Fiordland is known as the sightseeing capital of the world. Spectacular scenic beauty has earned this region a reputation as a significant walking destination and a "must-see" for anyone travelling to New Zealand. Milford Sound is the most famous and easiest to access among the fourteen fiords in the Fiordland National Park. The Milford Road is a unique alpine journey considered one of the world's finest drives. The magnificence of this drive even amazes locals used to New Zealand's breathtaking scenery. Travel along sparkling clear-blue lakes, through valleys flanked by towering rugged ranges, over wild cascading rivers, through lush rain forests, and around majestic cliff faces. Located 20km from Te Anau, Lake Manapouri provides an excellent base to discover Doubtful Sound and offers services such as a café, restaurant, small shop and service station. Guided tours depart from both towns daily to visit the fiords or to explore the many other features within Fiordland National Park. The picturesque lakeside township of Te Anau provides a perfect base to explore the area and provides visitors with various services. It is the closest service base to Milford Sound and is known as the “walking capital of the world” due to its proximity to the many outstanding walking tracks, including the Great Walks of the Milford Track, Routeburn Track and Kepler Track. When you travel to Fiordland, you are visiting one of the most beautiful and dramatic parts of New Zealand.
