This register is known as Status Register or Flag Register. It is an 8-bit register. Out of 8 bits, 5 bits are used while 3 bits are unimplemented and always read as 0. Five implemented bits are also known as conditional flags because they serve as conditions for conditional instructions in PIC18 microcontroller and changes their status or conditions from 0 to 1 or 1 to 0. Five conditional flags include carry flag (C), digital carry (DC), Zero flag (Z), Overflow flag (OV) and Negative flag (N). Carry flag becomes 1 either when there is carry out from D7 bit in addition operation or when there is borrow taken to D7 bit in subtraction operation otherwise it remains 0. Digital carry flag becomes 1 either when there is a carry from D3 to D4 bit in addition operation or when there is borrow taken from D4 to D3 bit in subtraction operation otherwise it remains zero. Zero flag becomes 1, if the last result computed is zero otherwise it stay at 0. Overflow flag becomes 1, if the signed result computed in recent operation exceed the 8-bits. Negative flag becomes1, if the signed of recent result is negative otherwise it stays at 0. ..............................................................................
