Upper Arm Muscles | Coracobrachialis | Anatomy Lecture for Medical Students Education | V-Learning™

Let us take a deep dive into the anatomy of the upper arm muscle. We detail all these to provide you a visual learning experience, parallel to no other, leaving no detail of upper extremity anatomy out! So join us and watch this comprehensive anatomy video lecture on upper arm muscles. But first, let's recall! ▬ 📃 Upper Limb ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ The upper limb is the portion of our body that begins from the shoulder joint to the fingers. It is further divided into three portions: the upper arm, the forearm, and the hands. To learn about the arm muscles thoroughly, we must recall the bones first. In one limb, there are a total of 30 bones. In the upper arm, we have one humerus bone. In the forearm, we can find the radius and ulna, present parallel to each other. Lastly, in the hand, we have 8 carpals, 5 metacarpals, and most proximally we have 14 phalanges. All these bones in the upper limb have particular attachment points for several muscles. ▬ 📜 Upper Arm Muscles ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ For this lecture, we are focusing on the upper arm muscles. The upper arm is supported by four muscles in total: bicep brachii muscle, brachialis muscle, coracobrachialis, and triceps muscle. They are further divided into two compartments for better understanding. As each compartment contains a set of muscles responsible for certain movements. These compartments are: 🟠 Anterior compartment 🟠 Posterior compartment ▬ 📃 Anterior Compartment of Arm Muscles ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ There are 3 muscles in the anterior compartment or anterior fascia of the upper arm. These are known as flexors. You can remember these via the mnemonic: B ➔ Bicep brachii muscle B ➔ Brachialis muscle C ➔ Coracobrachialis Each section is dedicated to these 3 muscles of the anterior compartment of the upper arm. As we delve into the details of their insertion and origins, their respective location, and functions, in the movement and support of the arm. ▬ 📜 Posterior Compartment Muscle ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ In the posterior compartment or the posterior fascia of the upper arm, we have a lone muscle known as the triceps muscle. This muscle is categorized as an extensor muscle of the upper arm. Tricep, as the name indicates has three heads lodged in the posterior compartment. Watch this lecture to learn all about the details of the anatomy and function of this muscle. First off, let us summarize the origins of the heads of triceps: 🔵 The long head of the triceps originates from the infra-glenoid tubercle of the scapula 🔵 The lateral head of the triceps finds its origin above the radial groove of the humerus 🔵 The medial head of the triceps originates below the radial groove. The educator Ms. Maira Shah also tells you a very important memory tip for the anatomical spaces formed between the long head of the triceps, humerus bone, and teres major, teres minor muscles. These spaces can be labeled as the upper triangular space, the lower triangular space, and the quadrangular space. Allowing the passage of certain arteries and nerves. ▬ 📃 Upper Arm Antagonistic Muscles ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ In the upper arm, the biceps brachii and the triceps work as a pair, known as antagonistic muscles. Meaning they work opposite each other. Watch the lecture, to learn the demonstrations by the educator. Learning is not over yet!
