Come with me to the most amazing cold water snorkel in Silfra, almost 100% visibility this snorkel is unforgettable! The Silfra fissure is in a tectonic boundary between the North American and Eurasian plates and the plates are still drifting apart about 2cm every year. Silfra is known for the world's clearest water, with almost 100% visibility. We chose Dive.is to take us into Silfra reservations are a must! Each guide can only take 6 guests at a time and they go out twice a day. There were a lot of people walking up trying to see if they had any open spots and they were disappointed. A cancellation can happen, but do not miss out on a chance to snorkel here and book online ahead of time. We booked the tour and the photo package, and there is a page of FAQ's on Dive.is website. Our guide Remy was excellent and he took the most amazing photos. If you are planning on using your GoPro be sure to use the dive housing, the water here is so cold it will zap the batteries within 10 minutes of entering the water. And this is a cold water snorkel, your lips and face will go numb within minutes of entering the water. Your hands will have water enter around the gloves but it is not as cold. You will be as warm as you're layers, picking the best layering material is key to staying warm. It is about a 20-25 minute snorkel and it's totally worth the chill. There are no fish to be seen as they live in the deep dark depths. There are microorgainism but you are here for the landscape and the water clarity, and the amazing visibility, it's such clear water.
