This video contains some shortwave catches I made in a rural area about 150 km east of Johannesburg, South Africa. I spent one night in a very small village called Presidentrus last week. I caught World Music Radio on 15700 kHz from a 300 watt transmitter in Denmark for the first time ever while I was in Presidentsrus, but also made some other interesting catches. There are four signals here. Three of these signals are beamed from the northern hemisphere to other places in the north, in the opposite direction of the southern hemisphere, where I am. I think some of them reached me via the long path. Some of the signals are a bit scratchy, but clear enough. The Qodosen DX-286 with a 5 metre wire as antenna worked wonders, picking up some signals that I rarely hear. Radio Romania International in English to Europe is one, also WNYC's On the Media programme, via WRMI Miami. The WRMI/WNYC catch is a brand new one for me. This video is audio only. There are static images, but I did not record the reception on video as I usually do, I only recorded the sound. 00:00 Some less usual catches for my location 01:14 Radio Romania in English, sign-off 13650 kHz 02:40 WNYC On the Media 15770 kHz (noisy!) 03:11 Voice of Korea in English, to Europe 13760 kHz 05:33 Radio Nacional da Amazonia 11780 kHz
