The Indian Rhino Vision 2020 (IRV 2020) has officially come to a close with the translocation of two rhinos to Manas National Park from Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam, India Indian Rhino Vision Factsheet: Launched – 2005 Aim – To achieve the population of Rhinos in wild in the seven protected sanctuaries in Assam to the tune of 3000 by 2020 About Rhinoceros Habitat: Tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannahs and shrublands, tropical moist forests, deserts and shrublands BEHAVIOUR: An amphibian to its core, the Rhinos love to wallow in waterholes in the summer to regulate its body temperature! REPRODUCTION: Female rhinos can give birth to one calf every 2-3 years and mating takes place throughout the year! DIET: Rhinos are mega herbivores – they can consume over 40 kgs of vegetation in a day! Rhino Distribution in India Three species of Rhinos are found in Asia- Sumatran Rhino Javan Rhino Indian Rhino(biggest of all species) Indian Rhino is hound in India, Pakistan and Nepal In India- Assam West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh IUCN- Vulnerable CITES- Appendix 1 WPA 1972 - Schedule Indian Rhino Vision Indian Rhino Vision was formulated by Rhino Task Force in 2005 with the aim to increase the population of Rhinos in Assam to 3000 by 2020.
