THE SHEKINAH - APOSTLE SYDNEY Text Rom 3:23-24/ *23 Heb 2:10-15 / * 10 Supporting Text Heb 9:13-14 1 Pet 1:18-19 Notes Shekinah refers to the manifest, dwelling presence of God—God choosing to live among, rest upon, or make Himself tangibly known to His people. Shekinah comes from the Hebrew root שָׁכַן (shākan), meaning to dwell, settle, tabernacle, abide. when Jews spoke of Shekinah, they were saying: “God Himself has come near—without ceasing to be God.” Shekinah is not God’s essence, but God’s presence made perceptible. How Shekinah Appears in Scripture (Biblical Expression).Though the term is later, the reality is everywhere in Scripture: Common manifestations • Cloud and fire (guiding, covering, purifying) • Light, radiance, overwhelming glory • A weighty presence that causes awe, fear, or worship Key moments • God dwelling in the Tabernacle (Exodus 40:34–38) • God filling Solomon’s Temple (1 Kings 8:10–11) • God speaking “from between the cherubim” above the Ark (Exodus 25:22) Shekinah always carries holiness. Where the Shekinah appears: • People cannot treat God casually • Priests cannot continue ministering • Worship is the only fitting response In rabbinic writings, Shekinah becomes deeply personal: • “Where two or three study Torah, the Shekinah is present.” Revelations To fall short of his glory means - Man failed to become what he was meant to be.” Habitations of Glory A habitation is the dwelling place that is proper, permanent, and fitted to the occupant’s nature. Man has become the HABITATION OF GOD by his SPIRIT.. Eph 2:22 Kjv Your BODY is very precious to GOD. It is the TEMPLE OF GOD 1 Cor 6:19 Meaning of Glory kabowd is used variously to describe an individual’s wealth, power or majesty, influential position, or great honor. (See, for example, Genesis 31:1; 45:13.) Kabowd can also express fame, reputation, recognition, beauty, magnificence, strength, dignity, splendor, respect, excellence, holiness, and greatness. Synonyms of Doxa Doxa is the Greek translation used in the Septuagint for kavod and means "judgment," "opinion," or "reputation" in classical Greek, but it adopted the meanings of kavod (brightness, splendor) in biblical contexts. Glory (the primary translation) Splendor / Radiance Majesty / Magnificence Honor / Fame / Reputation Brightness Praise / Renown Divine Manifestation Character / Attributes (of God) Abundance / Copiousness Key Differences in Nuance Kavod (Hebrew): Focuses on the substance—the heavy, impressive nature of God's presence or a person's reputation. Doxa (Greek): Focuses on the manifestation—the brilliant, visible, or recognized appearance of that glory. Together, they represent the "weighty splendor" of God or a person, encompassing both inner character and outer brilliance. Rhema / Col 1:27 You have become together with all that’s YOURS His ABODE/TEMPLE/RESTING PLACE to EXPRESS HIS GLORY.
