How the 40 Hz Hemi-Sync process works For this meditation I use slightly different frequencies on each channel: 200 Hz in one ear and 160 Hz in the other. Your brain never actually “hears” these as two separate tones. Instead, deep in the auditory pathways, it blends them and locks onto the difference between them — in this case, 40 Hz. This internal rhythm is known as a binaural beat, and the perceived beat frequency (here 40 Hz) tends to be the one your brain tries to follow and synchronize with. 40 Hz sits in the gamma range, a band of brain activity often linked to heightened attention, working memory, sensory integration and overall cognitive processing.
