The Squamish Railway Museum, (Also Known As The WCRHA) is located in Squamish BC, and his home to 90+ Locomotives, and Cars and is the second largest Railway Museum in Canada just behind Exporail in just outside of Montreal. There are some pretty iconic locomotives at this museum such as MLW H1-E 4-6-4 CP 2860 "The Royal Hudson", Budd RDC-1 BC-21, GMD FP7A CP 4069, and GMD FP9A CN 6520 just to name a few. The most popular locomotive at this museum is CP 2860, 2860 was construced in 1940 (H1E) along with many other varients of its class as "Semi Streamlined" locomotives in 1937 (H1C), and 1938 (H1D). CP 2850 pulled the Royal Candian Pacific across Canada from Quebec to Vancouver for King George The 6th. After the trip he gave permission to CP to name CP 2820 to 2859, and CP 2860 to CP 2864 as "Royal Hudson's", another detail that was added for the Royal Hudson was the Crown on the sides of the Locomotive, on either ends of the running boards. After being retired in 1959, 2860 was destined for scrap, however in 1964 it was sold to the Vancouver Railway Association. Unfortunatley they couldn't find a place to display 2860, and it was at risk of being scrapped again. In 1970 2860 was sold to a man named Joe Hussey, and in 1973 Joe sold 2860 to the BC Government. CP 2860 was operated by the BC Department of Travel Industry, with BC Rail. It ran between Squamish, and North Vancouver once a day along the Squamish Sub, from Wednesday to Saturday. The Royal Hudson ran from May to October of every year from 1973 to 2001, when BC Rail started to discontinue its passenger services. In 2006, 2860 ran under steam again, this took a major restoration process, and was the first time it operated under steam since 1999 (From 1999 to 2001 BCOL used 2-8-0 CP 3716, now at preserved the Kettle Valley Steam Railway). CP 2860 made a couple more runs in 2010. The last run of 2860 was on December 9th 2010, from Squamish to North Vancouver, and back. This will be the last run for a while due 2860s boiler certification expiring in January 2011, and the $1 million+ it would take to restore this locomotive. There is a possibility it could run in the future, however it would take quite a bit of money to repair the boiler damages. CP 2860 still looks nice as a static display at the beautiful CN Roundhouse at The WCRHA. Another locomotive that has been restored recently (November 2019), and that is in running condition is GMD FP9A CN 6520. This locomotive was used on many trancontinental, and corridor trains by CN from the 1960's to 1977 when it was sold to VIA Rail for passenger use until the 1990's. After its career at VIA it was then sold to The Waterloo & St. Jacobs Railway (Now the Waterloo Central) in Waterloo Ontario, and 6520 was repainted into CNs Gold, and Green paint scheme. Then 6520 was restored and repaired by Rapido Trains, and the WCRHA. Then repainted into into CNs "Wet Noodle Paint Scheme", and now runs at the Squamish Railway Museum. CN 6520 also was retrofited with a BCOL K5H. Another working locomotive at the WCRHA is GMD FP7A CP 4069. CP 4069 was built at GMD's London Ontario plant in 1952, and is in CPs maroon and grey paint scheme. It was one of the many locomotives that used to pull CPs passenger trains across Canada. CP 4069 is one of the many historic diesel Locomotives at the WCRHA. If you have any questions on these locomotives or if I got something incorrect please let me know in the comments. This is the second last episode of BC Railfanning, part 9 will be released soon. Thanks For Watching!
