Welcome Brad Matthiesen, Head of Engineering at Suno on this episode of 🔥The Lantern 🔥 Suno is a music company based here in Boston (Harvard Square) making foundation AI music models with a consumer application which allows people to make music. 🔍 What has been going on at Suno in 2025? 🔎 Growth across every dimension! At the end of 2024, Suno had just opened their first office in NYC and have grown the team in New York (expanding the office) while also opening an office in LA. The engineering team has grown substantially over that period...and the snack budget too! The team also announced a $250M Series C fundraise led by Menlo Ventures that values the company at $2.45B and signed a partnership with Warner Music Group to end the year. Growth everywhere! 🔍 What is Brad excited about as the team launches into 2026? 🔎 Suno has lofty goals and ambitions. Now that the team is operating at scale, they’re working hard behind the scenes to deliver the same product experience to tens of millions of creators. Another focus is their core product, both on the web and mobile. They’ll continue to invest in their Studio product (which launched in Fall 2025) building the most awesome music tools they can for creators and musicians. 🤔 What has Brad learned from the past year building Suno about what it takes to succeed at this scale? 🤔 The team and the people are more important now than ever. With smaller teams having outsized impact, the people around you matter. Second, public clouds have taken major strides over the last decade so you can do so much more with a smaller team using established products from those awesome cloud providers. Having people that you enjoy working with and opening up the curtain to allow more people to see into the work their team does every day gives them greater ability to get more awesome people into the studio! 🤝 How can we help Suno grow? 🤝 Make music! Music is awesome. Music makes life better. More specifically, Suno wants to be at the center of the Boston startup ecosystem. If you’re an awesome person and want to work at Suno, reach out! Or if you know awesome people who might be a good fit, have them get in touch!
