In this installment of 3D models for NCPTT's Documentation of Slave Cabin and Tenant Farming Houses Project, we visited The Burton House in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Often overlooked in antebellum history are the plantation homes and operations that were held by women. The Burton Place in Holly Springs, Mississippi, was in the 1840s, by Mary Malvina Shields Burton, who was considered a large slaveholder at the time due to a large number of enslaved persons, and upwards of 80, recorded on her property in the 1850 and 1860 U.S. Federal Census Slave Schedules. The two-story, brick home that sits on its original lot was designed in both Federal and Greek Revival-style architecture an ode to homes from Burton’s native Virginia. Having economic status in the cotton industry, Burton NCPTT laser scanned this building using the Faro Focus S Laser Scanner to produce this video 3D flythrough model of the building's digital point cloud. - - NCPTT's Links: Website - https://www.nps.gov/subjects/ncptt/in...
