Well, this is a video featuring our 'sorry dogs'. The name of our plantation is The Sorry Dog Planation. I want to try to explain that name. When we first started all this kind of stuff, I begin to look at other plantations and their names and this dog that dog and and these kind of dogs and a lot of more somewhat bragging names so I said we're going to name this the 'Sorry Dog Planation' and that way everybody won't have any great expectations and we won't be bragging in anyway and put it right on the table, Sorry Dogs with no pretense involved. As far as the Planation and not plantation, I'll try to explain. When I was a young man, the people that I knew, and some of them were black said planation. I was in high school probably before I knew there was a T in plantation. So now you know where the name Sorry Dog Planation originated. Today's video was a great day and the cold weather broke a little bit when it was warmer but still just right to bird hunt. We hunted all of our dogs except Bob's older dog, Dot. She is approximately 12 years old and just does not go much anymore. On the video, the first dog is Kate and she is a dog that Bob acquired probably 3-4 months ago and she is a rehab dog. I've told you the story, but I'll tell you again briefly. Some man had her and no doubt with great expectations and she was raised in a kennel. She did not know her name. She did not know anything and this man decided to try to give her away and he gave her to one of Bob's friends and that's how Bob got the dog. He took her on a two or three week trial and she has responded beautifully. It is amazing how sometimes there is a diamond in the rough and really what Bob has done is to give this poor dog, an opportunity to become who she already was. It was all there and ready to be manifested. From the video, I think you would agree she has come a long way and she is a great little hunting dog. We are very proud of her for a lot of things, but first and foremost for being who she is and the fact that Bob saved her from who knows what. What a great feeling inside to know that you have given this dog a chance in life and she has responded remarkably. The second dog that we hunted today is my Lucy and I've told you enough about her. She is a Lewellin setter and will be 10 years old in March. She is my baby and I love her very much and she has been a wonderful dog for me, but she has passed her prime and it cannot be recovered just like me. She is a wonderful bird finder and is steady as a rock. You can see for yourself. The next dog we hunted was Bob's English pointer Luke. Luke about 3-4 yo and he was breed by Lowell Justice and raised by another friend of ours, Roland Bridges. Lowell is one of our friends who has been raising bird dogs a long time. Bob trained him with a little help from me and Luke is a gentleman and a wonderful bird doll. You can see from the video that he is the 'real deal'. Bob very proud of him and rightly so. The next dog is Addie and this is another of Bob's English Pointer's and again this is out of Lowell Justice's dogs. She I think is about 2 1/2 years old and she's the most stylish dog we have. She is an excellent hunter with exceptional speed but under control. She does not mess around and her job is to find a bird and she is dedicated to that and that she does. If you really like style, this dog is loaded. Bob and I believe very firmly that you must start with good stuff. If the dog you have does not have it to begin with, you best start over as hard and painful as it may be. One simply cannot make a purse out of a sow's ear. I know how much I love Lucy and I wouldn't change a thing, but I am so blessed and so is Bob that all of our dogs came from great gene pools. Yes we have spent a lot of time working with these dogs and we do it very frequently so they know us and we know them and they know what to expect from us and we require them to fulfill it. We do not profess to be professional trainers just two old men who love what we do and do what we love. We are so very fortunate to have a place, health, and each other to help the other with their dogs. I realize that this may be Lucy's last full hunting season. She has severe arthritis in both of her wrist, but she keeps going and I hope and pray she will be ready to go next year, but that remains to be seen and it remains to be seen what will I do about another dog? I am probably too old to start another. I thank God for all of these blessings that I have just listed in so many more that I can't even name. I thank God that Bob and I can do what we do and enjoy so much. If you have any questions or comments, we welcome them and invite you to express them. Thanks be to God for we are two of the most blessed old men in the world. Our health is always better in October. Dear God, let it be!
