Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salutation is often viewed as a warm-up exercise in the West, but it is a beautiful asana sequence that connects us with our inner sun, fire, healing power, as well as our consciousness or inherent cosmic awareness. Traditionally practiced at dawn, the Sun Salutation draws in the life force—prana shakti, which many feel as calming and deeply nourishing. We don’t just absorb warmth, but vital energy that uplifts and centers us. There are many variations of Sun Salutation, but all share a common intention: to activate the body, balance the chakras, energize the organs, and move stagnant energy. By creating heat in the body, it boosts our metabolism. When paired with conscious breath and chants, it becomes a powerful and meditative spiritual practice.
