Visit our Website or Facebook page for the latest info on TVRM events. www.tvrail.com or www.facebook.com/tvrail/ Locomotive 80 of the Tennessee Alabama and Georgia Railway is alive and well at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga. Purchased in 1968, 80 was the only GP38 they ever owned for use on their line from Chattanooga to Gadsden, Al. It was named the "John A Chambliss" after one of the owners of the line. It later became Southern 2879 after the Southern Railway acquired the TAG. Later Norfolk Southern 2879 was retired and was sold to TVRM after the museum received donations from the Chambliss family and other family friends. Many others also contributed. Thank You to all involved. The locomotive has been restored to service thanks to the generosity of Norfolk Southern Corporation, who took the unit to it's Altoona, PA shops and repaired the 80's EMD 645 power plant. TVRM's Chief Electrician Mike Little and Electrician Brandon Tate have completed a total rewire of the electrical cabinet at the TVRM Soule Shops. In this video, we see the engine being tested, within the shop limits, to see that it loads and moves under its own power. Still to come is replacement of the air filters and other more minor details. Success is imminent!
