BMW E39 540i Thermostat Mod (85c Instead of 105c)

In this video, I modify the thermostat on my 1997 BMW E39 540i so that it runs at a much cooler 85c. The factory thermostat on these runs at 105c which in my opinion is just too hot and is the possible cause of cooling system failures, brittle rubbers and plastics. The part number for the 85c thermostat is 11531742964, just make sure it will fit your car and that yours is a pre-vanos 540i with the straight thermostat that used the hose clamp rather than the later angled thermostat with the clip on style hoses. This 85c thermostat is from the Gulf version of the E31 840ci.
