I see a lot of these survival vids, particularly Altoids kits and EDC keychain type stuff, where people spend so much money to build a little tiny kit and for no reason. If you are into any kind of primitive or survival thinking, you probably have more than enough laying around to build up as many of these "survival kits" as you could want, but at that point most of us don't care anymore. That's not to say that you can't make some very helpful little tools and gadgets for yourself. Waxed natural fibers act like a long burning match, or a quick burning type of reed or rush "candle." Obviously not something you would want to read a long book by, but they will put out a good amount of light and flame for a fairly long duration compared to burning up other fuel sources, and without needing to waste bigger candles and such. And for the price of some of this "waxed hemp" which seems to be the new fad for this sort of thing, you can prolly get a mile of cotton or jute twine and a small lump of wax that is more than enough to coat all of it, and you only need to wax what you want to use, so you still have the cordage for other things like a true "slow match" ember, making larger fire-starters, or twine-wrapping a package before you drop it off at the post office.
