Growing Grape Vine Cuttings - A How to Guide In my opinion, grape vine cuttings are far easier to use than grape seeds. It is usually agreed upon that cuttings produce a plant more closely related to the mother then grape seeds will. With grape seeds your risking a weak harvest, with a cutting you can look at the mother plant and decide the strength, color, or flavor you'd like to mimic. Grape vine cuttings should be a little over 10 inches long, with a few buds. It is safe to assume that half of the cuttings won't produce roots, so be sure to get a bunch. Well-draining soil means that after rainfall you won't find any standing water on the soil. Soil on an incline is usually well-draining. Dig a trench in well-draining soil, where the they are under as much sunlight as possible. Grape vines do well with lots of sunlight. Line the bottom of the trench with just enough sand to help anchor the cuttings. Dip half of the cuttings in water, and then lay them about 5 inches apart in the trench, dipped side down. I've heard dipping the cuttings in a rooting powder compound can help, but I haven't tried it, just thought I'd mention. Start packing in soil loosely around the cutting, so that only about an inch of them remains visible above the soil. Make sure their is a bud above the soil as well. Water them as the sun is going down, or early in the morning. The grape vines are in a very fragile state. You wouldn't want the water to evaporate or cause the cuttings damage under the sunlight. After about a year they should be ready to move, you can now plant them into their permanent positions. Sometimes our grape vines don't turn out right, whether or not it is a fault of our own. Sometimes the fruit comes in poorly, and it seems like the grape vine you worked so patiently with will never give a good harvest. I feel like their had to be some way to make sure this couldn't happen to me. how to grow muscadine grapes growing blackberries grape trellis muscadine grapes grape vine cuttings grapevines concord grapes growing potatoes growing asparagus how to plant grape vines wine grape vines growing a grape vine how to grow raspberries grape trees grapes vines wine grapes growing sunflowers wine grapes for sale wine grape vines for sale how do you grow grapes
