How well does my stabiliser setup damp vibrations, and what does it look like when vibrating? I set out to answer those questions by filming my setup along with a range of different ones to see how different dampers, amount of weight, and the long rod itself change the vibration. Here I'm looking at the vibration of two long rods as the weight and damping at the end are changed. All other aspects of the bow stayed constant. 0:30 HMC+ with different weights 1:17 HMC+ with different dampers and a heavy weight. 1:53 HMC+ closeups of damper and weight movement 3:01 Basic carbon rod with different weights The dampers are: SF (orange), Avalon (black), Fivics n-shock (silver), dinky doinker (gray), Fivics vz1500 (blue). The setups here are meant to illustrate the changes that happen to the vibration of the rod as the weight is changed and are for educational purposes - most of these combinations would likely be terrible in practice - especially the 0.5 kg weight! These videos do not indicate anything about how well the motion of the bow is stabilised before the shot happens (which is when it can affect accuracy). Until a damper is added, the system can be approximated as a cantilever with both a distributed mass and an end mass.
