Cycling: The Red Group of Southside Wheely Wheelers rolled out of Kilmallock in fine style, setting off towards Kilfinane at a very enjoyable, steady pace. From the first pedal stroke there was a real air of enthusiasm and a definite sense of excitement as today’s 85km route included roads many of us were fairly sure we’d never cycled before. New roads = instant happiness. I think? A fast, grin-inducing downhill into Knockanevin got things rolling nicely, followed by smooth progress onwards to Glanworth. Over the traffic-light bridge we went, then onto the undulating roads towards Kilworth, legs spinning, chats flowing, spirits high before arriving at Fermoy Plaza for a very well-earned coffee stop. Caffeine consumed, smiles restored, and a quick group photo taken to prove we were actually there. Back on the bikes and onto White City Road (brand new to the Red Group map ), which guided us neatly towards Rockmills before serving up a lovely climb into Kildorrery, just enough to remind everyone they were still cycling. The group’s secret weapon today was the famous code word “Half a K”, used frequently and very effectively to keep everyone nicely together. This was especially important given that a sizeable portion of the group had been out riding yesterday too , clearly sneaking in some extra training ahead of upcoming adventures in Mallorca and the Pyrenees. Nothing sneaky about those extra watts from Ardpatrick onwards, the pace lifted, the rotations kicked in, and with a glorious tailwind from Fermoy all the way home, the group absolutely flew back into Kilmallock. Fast, smooth, and very satisfying. Another cracking Red Group spin, great roads, great company, strong legs, and just enough coffee to make it all perfect. Roll on the next one Well done to Paul Finn Mike Meade, Michael Gammell, Jaclyn Joyce Anne Goggin, Catherine and David, Jerry Reidy Stephen Danagher, Martin Lake, Derry Tierney and group leader Paul Gammell. #southsidewheelywheelers #sundayspins #clubcycling #wintermiles #coffeeandkilometres #roadcycling #trainingride
