A song about swallows migrating, climate change, loss of wild spaces. I wrote this during the pandemic when the swallows were starting to leave at the end of the summer. I always feel a sense of sadness when they fly back to Africa but am also in wonder at how they do this every year. We were hearing about wildfires in Canada and other places around the world and feeling grateful for being safe. Beth Porter - vocals and cello Hannah Jacobs (Jakes) - vocals and keys Nicholas O’Brien (Niko) - drums Recorded by Nicholas O’Brien @UpcycledSounds Filmed by Ben Stewart Wilderness, where have you gone A painted door, a garden lawn Thirty houses for the young Hover in time On a hill and cold today Far away a city burns Turn your back and buy more tat Selling ourselves Cos we don’t see the trouble we make Dozing off while others are breaking Tomorrow’s too late to change our ways Sweet sorrow the swallow is leaving Listen, listen leaders failing Falling branches passing the deadlines daily Headlines buried beneath a sea of waste Wasting our time Cos we don’t see the trouble we make Dozing off while others are breaking Tomorrow’s too late to change our ways Sweet sorrow the swallow is leaving You know there’s a way to limit darker days Let the people have their say We’re in trouble, trouble Cos we don’t see the trouble we make Dozing off while others are breaking Tomorrow’s too late to change our ways Sweet sorrow the swallow is leaving
