$20 Pentax Spotmatic Hidden in the Junk Bin | Tokyo Camera Hunt

Episode 2 of my Tokyo $250 Budget Camera Hunt. I didn’t actually plan to hunt for cameras today because I didn’t have much time. But since I was already at Ameya-Yokochō, I decided to quickly stop by the nearby Hard-Off just to see if there were any hidden gems. Because this store is located in a tourist-heavy area, most of the prices were actually quite expensive and the selection wasn’t particularly exciting. At first it looked like this stop would be a complete miss. But after digging around the junk corner for a while, I finally found something worth picking up — a Pentax Spotmatic for 3,300 yen (~$20). It has some cosmetic flaws, but mechanically everything seems to work perfectly. I also grabbed an SD card for the Panasonic Lumix LX1 that I found in Episode 1. Before ending the day, I stopped by Yodobashi Camera near my Airbnb. I knew there wouldn’t be any used gear there, but it was a great chance to try cameras that are harder to find in Malaysia — including the Panasonic Lumix S9 Gold Titanium edition and a Sigma fp from Sigma Corporation that I had never handled before. I didn’t buy anything at Yodobashi, but testing these cameras was still a lot of fun.
