A shocking incident of broad daylight firing has created panic in Batala city, as a young man named Jasjeet Singh alias Dimpy, a resident of Maan Nagar, was brutally shot dead by unidentified assailants on Dera Road. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police information, Jasjeet Singh had arrived in his car and had just stepped out when suddenly four unidentified men riding on two motorcycles opened fire on him from close range. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting, leaving Jasjeet critically injured. Despite people rushing to help, he succumbed to his injuries on the spot before any medical assistance could reach. DSP City Sanjeev Kumar, while addressing the media, confirmed the incident and stated that police teams have been deployed to investigate the matter. He said, “Preliminary investigation reveals that four unidentified assailants on two motorcycles fired multiple bullets at the victim, resulting in his death. We have cordoned off the area and are scanning CCTV footage to trace the accused.” The sudden and violent killing has left the residents of Batala in a state of fear and grief. The police have registered a case and are probing various angles, including personal rivalry and gang-related motives. Forensic experts and a crime scene team have collected vital clues from the site, and several checkpoints have been set up across the city to prevent the culprits from escaping. Meanwhile, the victim’s wife Charanjit Kaur shared an emotional account of the moments leading up to the incident. She said her husband had gone out for some work and had called her a short while earlier, asking her to make tea as he was returning home soon. When he didn’t answer her repeated calls, she became worried. Moments later, she received the heartbreaking news that her husband had been shot. Rushing outside, she found Jasjeet’s lifeless body lying on the road, surrounded by onlookers and police personnel. This shocking murder has once again raised questions about rising crime incidents in the region and the easy availability of illegal firearms.
