Allegro vivace [29:30] 4. Allegretto leggiero Paul Umlauft (1853–1934) was a German composer, choral conductor, accompanist and music critic. He studied philosophy and philology at the University of Leipzig before transferring to the Leipzig Conservatory. He studied primarily under Carl Reinecke, and during this time worked as conductor for various musical societies and as a music critic for the Leipziger Tageblatt and the Leipziger Tageszeitung. His musical works include three operas, an oratorio, a symphony, chamber music and lieder. He won a shared first price for his one-act opera "Evanthia" in a composition contest held by Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1893, for which 124 operas had been submitted to. SYMPHONY IN E MAJOR This symphony by Paul Umlauft was composed in 1899 and premiered in 1901 at Glachau. There also exists a handwritten set of parts for this symphony held at SLUB.
