When, my Saviour! is a reflective Christian hymn that expresses a believer’s deep longing for a closer walk with Christ and the hope of eternal fellowship with Him. The hymn text reflects themes common in devotional hymns of the 18th and 19th centuries—faith, patience in trials, and the anticipation of heavenly joy. The melody used for this hymn was composed by Ignaz Joseph Pleyel (1757–1831), an Austrian-born composer and musician who became well known in Europe for his church music, chamber works, and hymn tunes. Pleyel was a student of Joseph Haydn, and many of his melodies were later adopted into church hymnals because of their gentle, dignified, and worshipful character. Over time, the tune became associated with several Christian texts and found its place in traditional hymn collections used in churches and devotional settings. In this organ rendition, Rev. Winfred L. Nartey-Graham presents the hymn with a calm and reverent interpretation, allowing its contemplative melody to support the hymn’s message of longing, faith, and hope in the Saviour. Lyrics 🎶 1. When, my Saviour, shall I be Perfectly resigned to YOU? Poor and vile in my own eyes, Only in Your wisdom wise: 2. Only You content to know, Ignorant of all below; Only guided by Your light, Only mighty in Your might! 3. So I may Your Spirit know, Let Him as He listed blow; Let the manner be unknown, So I may with You be one. 4. Fully in my life express All the heights of holiness, Sweetly let my spirit prove All the depths of humble love. Words by Charles Wesley (1707–1788). Beautifully played by Rev Winfred Lomotey Nartey-Graham.
