Teen killed in backyard fireworks blast at South Los Angeles home.

A 17-year-old boy was fatally injured Wednesday night after a high-powered firework exploded in the backyard of his home on 84th Street, according to residents. Witnesses reported hearing a loud blast shortly after 9pm. and saw smoke rising from the yard. LAFD paramedics arrived within minutes and transported the 17-year-old to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. LAPD's 77th Division officers and detectives responded to the scene, along with their bomb squad to examine the remaining fireworks and determine exactly what caused the explosion.
