Read The Review: https://bespokeunit.com/shoes/shoemak... 00:00 Introduction John Peters founded Amberjack after he gained experience in the shoe industry when working for a consulting firm. He became disillusioned by its practices, though. Since he needed dress shoes for work, he also wished to create a brand that was office-appropriate, comfortable, and affordable. He was inspired by Allbirds but wished to focus on the officewear market. 01:05 How Amberjack Was Founded While John had experience with the shoe industry, he didn't quite yet know how to go about creating a brand and making the shoes himself. Therefore, he teamed up with two friends: Jake Rudin and James Seuss, who were a Digital Technologies Senior Manager and the former CEO of Cole Hann respectively. He also approached shoe designer John Kraljevich who had worked for brands like Allen Edmonds, Coach, Rag & Bone, and John Varvatos. 01:45 Amberjack's Vision John didn't want to launch just another casual hybrid dress shoe brand. He wanted to create a shoe that incorporated the mechanics and comfort of the athletic shoe at a much more fundamental level for a young and professional market. Sustainability was also a priority for John as he wanted an environmentally-friendly shoe brand. 03:30 How The Shoes Are Made Therefore, Amberjack teamed up with a partner factory in Portugal that was traditional enough in terms of craftsmanship but adventurous enough to work with new technology. The shoes are also only made from American cowhide produced in a Mexican tannery. The shoes are made from 20 custom-made components that were designed by John Kraljevich as well as the partner factories. The shoe features a footbed with heat-activated arch support that's three-times thicker than that from the competition. Its heel is inspired by hiking footwear. The mid and outsoles took two years to develop and are made from a custom TPU blend for traction, stability and shock absorption. 05:51 Design & Aesthetic The design is stylish and visually interesting. The vamp is held with elastic to keep its shape, the uppers feature perforations so that they can breathe. There is a striking contrast in colour in the midsole, which is not to everyone's palate but highlights the sneaker influence, especially when juxtapositioned by the derby-style stitching above it. Overall, the shoe marries the styles together well. 07:22 Comfort Let's compare it with the Wolf & Shepherd Closer cap toe, which is much more in-line with a traditional dress shoe. CP personally prefers the Wolf & Shepherd shoe in terms of appearance. However, Amberjack has a superior footbed thanks to its material that shares properties with memory foam but isn't quite the same. Overall, the Amberjack shoe is a much more comfortable option. 09:04 Dress Code Amberjack is best suited to business casual dress. For instance, CP finds that it pairs well with an Eton shirt, Indochino blazer, and Twillory trousers. Learn more about each of these brands with the following guides: Eton Shirts: https://bespokeunit.com/suits/shirts/ Indochino: https://bespokeunit.com/articles/suit... Twillory: https://bespokeunit.com/articles/styl... 09:50 Value For Money While $179 isn't cheap, it's much cheaper than most comfort-orientated brands. Therefore, it offers great value. Furthermore, it's stylish whereas many comfort brands like Vionic, Mephisto, and Rockport tend not to be particularly aesthetically pleasing.
