Embedded in a landscape of European renown, full of natural beauty and culture, the hotel has inspired many and continues to do so; prominent artists and intellectuals have been coming here since the doors first opened. As hosts and organizers of numerous cultural events, has long cultivated a cultural commitment that radiates beyond local and cantonal boundaries while remaining firmly anchored in the region. It can be happily said that culture is by no means confined to what takes place within the walls. The Waldhaus is part and parcel of the rich cultural life of the Engadine as a whole. The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche helped make Sils Maria famous in the 19th century. Other authors, artists, and intellectuals soon followed, often staying at the Waldhaus. Even today, an extraordinary range of personalities reads and rests, composes and plays, writes, and philosophizes at the Waldhaus in Sils Maria – the village Hermann Hesse called “paradise on earth.” They share it as simple as it is hard to describe: the sense of well-being from being a Waldhaus guest. Rooms - Dawn over Lake Silvaplana. The Fex Valley to the south. Maloja and Lake Sils to the west. Ibex, chamois, and bearded vultures high up and above Piz Grevasalvas and Piz Lagrev. As appealingly diverse as these views are, the 140 rooms and suites at the Waldhaus are just as distinctive. Just as at the beginning of the 20th century, the rooms can be combined to meet the guests' space requirements, particularly families. Three rooms are available: classic, modern and nostalgic, the latter with the original restored furnishings from 1908. And make every effort to match the guests’ personal room requests with a diverse range of rooms, being glad to learn about your needs and preferences. Food and Drink - The Executive Chef Gero Porstein and his Sous-Chefs Matthias Kovarik and Claudia Tognina, and the Pastry Chef Renato Pellegrinelli have a consuming passion. Their team lovingly arranges on the plates is nothing less than the taste of the Waldhaus itself: forest and garden, the Fex valley and Val Bregaglia, Alp Prasüra, and the mountains. With great respect for local producers in a region blessed by intact nature, the chefs serve the discerning guests a series of delights, both large and small. Wine steward Oscar Comalli and Managing Director Claudio Dietrich share a passion: the Waldhaus wine cellar. More than 20,000 bottles, of which around 30 to 40% are Swiss wines, are stored here. Prominent rankings by wine experts and publications often mention the wine list. It represents a stunning selection at decidedly reasonable prices. Chef's Table - Chef’s Table: a chance to take the true measure of a kitchen crew in full swing. The chefs invite you to join them for an exclusive dinner in the impressive kitchen, preceded by a cellar visit to taste and select the appropriate wines. Room for up to 12 guests.
