Abscess in the tail bone region are usually due to 2 reasons. One is due to pilonidal sinus. Other is the anal abscess. The pilonidal sinus is located just above the anal crest. It is caused by some hair follicles piercing the skin and thereby forming an abscess. Previously it also was given a name called the driver’s abscess or the jeep driver’s abscess. Other one is the anal abscess. It is due to the infection of the glands around the anus and what forms is a pus beneath the anal orifice which can lead on to the skin and lead to an anal fistula. So we need to know what the condition is. Both these condition usually are not amenable to antibiotics. The antibiotics will just suppress the infection and not cure it completely. If the antibiotics are given continuously, the anal abscess or the pilonidal sinus will burst open. So that is when we can see some pus might show out or leak out the orifice. The brown fluid which has been seen following a cut is usually a serosanguinous fluid, which is usually pus mixed with blood. So that is the reason that is brown. So it is need to be drained out. It is small procedure which needs local anesthesia around that region, we clean that part and probably if it is large enough, it should be packed with gauze and it should heal in 2- 3 weeks’ time.
