5 Minute Compost Bin - Composting for Beginners

If you have any interest in gardening, self-sufficiency, or food production, you should be composting. It's a great way to turn garbage into valuable fertilizer for your soil. You can buy fancy composting bins, or start a huge heap somewhere on your property, but you can also start small. I like these small containers because I can pick the whole thing up, shake it around, and eventually dump it right into my garden bed. It's easy to manage, and I can move it out of the way if I need to. There's not many wrong ways to compost; if you put compostable materials in some dirt, it will break down. Using a composting bin and following some basic guidelines, however, will speed the process up quite a bit. Dark containers work better, but you can use all sorts of bins, barrels, trash cans, etc. Plenty of people use old tires, stacked up atop on another. The compost bin you have is better than the compost bin you don't, so start small as long as you start!
