UPDATE: December 2022 I've since modified my understanding and explanation of indirect objects, especially in the SVOO sentence type. I no longer believe it's accurate to call objects of prepositions indirect objects. Prepositions always have object, but it's best to simply call them "objects of prepositions." I've considered whether or not a prepositional phrase can actually be called the indirect object in SVOO (example: I showed my work to the teacher). It would be more accurate to simply consider the entire prepositional phrase as the second object without naming it the "indirect object." See my new lesson ditransitive verbs.
